About The Artist

My photo
Albuquerque, New Mexico, United States
Hello! I am a fine arts painter, with a BFA from The School of the Art Institute of Chicago. My primary painting medium is oil and alkyd, and mostly I work in a representational style. My greatest challenge as a painter is to capture the effect of light; and my greatest joy as a painter is to accomplish that. Many thanks to those readers who have been following this blog since Day 1 (May 19, 2008). To those who are visiting for the first time today...Welcome, and thanks for dropping by!

Getting the Painting "Right"

In the Brightness, 2016. Original oil on stretched canvas, 6"x6"
SOLD
Today's post of a yellow lily was begun over three months ago. So why are you just seeing it today? Well...

I painted the lily, and then the greenery—but I didn't like the way it turned out. So I repainted the lily, and then the greenery.

Then I tackled the background, first with a deep turquoise color; then a purplish hue; then a deep blue; and finally the rosy pink. (Yes, I am talking about those 17 little bits of color behind the flower and the leaves.)

Yes, it took three months to finally get it "right"—at least, I think it's "right."

Of course, I have been working on other paintings in the meantime—which I'll be sharing with you...just as soon as they are "right", too.

Thanks for taking a moment to read this post. Have a great week!
