About The Artist

My photo
Albuquerque, New Mexico, United States
Hello! I am a fine arts painter, with a BFA from The School of the Art Institute of Chicago. My primary painting medium is oil and alkyd, and mostly I work in a representational style. My greatest challenge as a painter is to capture the effect of light; and my greatest joy as a painter is to accomplish that. Many thanks to those readers who have been following this blog since Day 1 (May 19, 2008). To those who are visiting for the first time today...Welcome, and thanks for dropping by!

It's been awhile....

SOLD: "Winter Ice", acrylic, mixed media on canvas, 6x6, 2018.
It's been quite awhile since I've posted on this blog. I moved last year, and part of that effort has been establishing my studio at my new location. I have a new larger work space with wonderful natural light, and a great view of the Sandia Mountains, too!

Now that I have my new studio established, I will no long be working at the Harwood Art Center. Last Friday was my final Harwood open studio event. It was bittersweet, since I've been a "Harwood Artist" on and off since moving to New Mexico over two decades ago.

Although I'll be gone, I'm sure there'll be a new artist working in there within a month, who will be just as thrilled as I was to have a creative space and environment to grow and thrive.

Good wishes to that Artist, and many thanks to the Staff and Harwood Artists I've gotten to know over the years—especially Sue Pine who has been my studio mate since last May. Happy painting to you too, Sue, in your new space!

Whatcha doing Saturday night?

Invitation to Harwood Open Studios, Saturday, March 3, 2018, 5-8pm
I'm getting ready to go to tonight's opening reception for Movers and Shakers exhibit at the NM Cancer Center (see my last post on Feb 27); and thought I'd better post this invitation for tomorrow night's Harwood Open Studios. (Yes, it's a busy weekend!)

So come on down to the Harwood Art Center at 1114 7th NW (at Mountain Road) between 5 and 8pm and enjoy an evening of art, exhibits, installations, music, refreshments, and food trucks. This is the Harwood's community celebration called "Encompass", and  it's always a big night for the Harwood studio artists, collectors, buyers, enthusiasts, and lookers.

My studio is S-5, upstairs on the South Wing. Come thru the South Gallery and duck around the fun, colorful floating fish that the kids made. I'll be there!

Busy Time for Exhibits

Bugs and Roses, Oil on panel, 12x16”
Original painting by Carol L. Adamec
SOLD
A lot has been going on since I posted a month ago. The Harwood Open Studio Night / Encompass event on March 4 was a lot of fun, as usual, with many friends stopping by my studio and new lookers passing through.

I sold some paintings that evening, including Bugs & Roses, featured on today’s post. The new owners wrote me a sweet note saying, “We love it, love it, love it! Bugs makes me smile every time I walk into Fred’s office.”

Now that’s what I consider a “successful” painting!
