About The Artist

My photo
Albuquerque, New Mexico, United States
Hello! I am a fine arts painter, with a BFA from The School of the Art Institute of Chicago. My primary painting medium is oil and alkyd, and mostly I work in a representational style. My greatest challenge as a painter is to capture the effect of light; and my greatest joy as a painter is to accomplish that. Many thanks to those readers who have been following this blog since Day 1 (May 19, 2008). To those who are visiting for the first time today...Welcome, and thanks for dropping by!

Last Day to Visit "In a Japanese Garden"

White Blossoms: Yellow, Blue, Peach, 2016.
6" x 6" each. Available separately.
Today is the last day of my exhibit "In a Japanese Garden"at the Weyrich Gallery in Albuquerque.

This has been a truly wonderful exhibit for me, from start to finish. I enjoyed creating the paintings; loved the installation by the Galler
y; was thrilled with the fabulous review by Wesley Pulkka; had fun giving my Artist Talk last weekend to the brave souls who came out in 100 degree heat; and am so grateful to those who purchased work, too!

Thank you! to everyone who has been a part of this process--those near and those far away.

You're Invited…..

I'm in North Carolina for a reunion exhibition by members of Center/Gallery, an organization I helped start up back in 1977. The exhibit will feature artworks by the members and those they have mentored. I'm looking forward to a fun week with dear friends and good memories. The show will include my painting "Catching the Light" and a pencil drawing my granddaughter did of her beloved dog Sweetie, entitled, "My First Birthday."

I was interviewed as part of an article about Center/Gallery which appeared in The News & Observer (Durham), which you can read HERE.

I hope you enjoy a wonderful week, too!

UPDATE April 21: I've been out of town for several weeks and unable to post while on the road. I did enjoy a wonderful reunion with dear artist-friends at the Carrack Modern in Durham, North Carolina—some I hadn't seen in 35 years! I'm back in New Mexico now, returning to my studio endeavors, and looking forward to posting more often in the weeks ahead.

Boogie Board Drawings on Exhibit

Golden Garden Varieties w/ handcoloring, 2012
For the past two weeks I've been tweaking and handcoloring the Boogie Board drawings that have been featured on this blog over the past few months.

Today's image is Boogie Board drawing #4 from the Garden Varieties Series that I revised and then handcolored with Prismacolor pencil and gold metallic ink. All those extra embellishments give this version a bit of "wow!" factor. It is rather amazing to see how variations in color and material can alter the visual impact of each image.

I'm pleased to announce that the entire handcolored Garden Varieties Series, Ti Plant, and  Albuquerque Rooftop Series are included in a group exhibit at the Weyrich Gallery here in Albuquerque, The exhibit "Universal Expression, Change" opens this Friday (December 7), 5-8:30pm and includes fine art, jewelry, sculpture, photography, glass, and mixed media work by eleven artists.

If you are in the Albuquerque area, please come by Friday evening to say "hello" and see the show. I'll be there! and look forward to your response to the Boogie Board drawings.  The gallery is located in the NE Heights at 2935 Louisiana NE at Candelaria. The exhibit is free and open to the public.

Thanks for taking a look. Have a great day!

Show Time!

O'Keeffe Calla, 2010
Original painting, oil on panel, 7" x 5"
To purchase, contact the Artist

Hello, Dear Readers,

It's been a busy time since my last post. I left Orlando last Friday to drive to Joplin, Missouri, to install my solo exhibition at artCentral in Carthage, MO. Those of you who know me may recall that I was Director of this nonprofit artist group when I lived in the Joplin area several years ago.

My exhibit is titled "In Natural Light" and features mostly studio and plein air paintings completed over the past year--many which have been posted on this blog--along with a couple of larger color pencil drawings. Of course, there have been a few revisions, reworkings, and final touches on the paintings, which hopefully are improvements. All framed up and hung on the walls, the paintings look pretty nice. I am pleased with the show.
If you are local or in the area, please accept this invitation to attend the opening reception this Friday, November 19, 6-8pm. artCentral is located at 1110 East 13th Street, Carthage, MO 64836. The event is free and open to the public. The exhibit continues through December 5, and can be viewed on weekends and by appointment.

I will be returning to Orlando around December 1, so look for my next blog post in a few weeks. In the meantime, best wishes to all for a wonderful Thanksgiving holiday.
