About The Artist

My photo
Albuquerque, New Mexico, United States
Hello! I am a fine arts painter, with a BFA from The School of the Art Institute of Chicago. My primary painting medium is oil and alkyd, and mostly I work in a representational style. My greatest challenge as a painter is to capture the effect of light; and my greatest joy as a painter is to accomplish that. Many thanks to those readers who have been following this blog since Day 1 (May 19, 2008). To those who are visiting for the first time today...Welcome, and thanks for dropping by!

Sneak Preview ....Revisiting a Japanese Garden

Original: White Blossoms & Clematis, 2019, mixed media on panel, 12x12"  (Photo Credit: Margot Geist)

In just a a couple of weeks, my new exhibit "In a Japanese Garden, Revisited" will open at the Weyrich Gallery in Albuquerque.

Today's image—White Blossoms & Clematis—is the piece I selected for the postcard invitation announcing the opening on Friday, May 3, 5-8:30pm.

Once again, this body of work presents a variety of of kimonos and flowers inspired by Japanese forms and sensibility.

In many of the paintings the kimono shape mergers with its surroundings of flowers and foliage to express the ideals of beauty and harmony of "Man in Nature". In other pieces, design and traditions from other cultures are melded as a purely abstraction fusion of decorative imagery.

Of course, the ultimate goal is Beauty.
