About The Artist

My photo
Albuquerque, New Mexico, United States
Hello! I am a fine arts painter, with a BFA from The School of the Art Institute of Chicago. My primary painting medium is oil and alkyd, and mostly I work in a representational style. My greatest challenge as a painter is to capture the effect of light; and my greatest joy as a painter is to accomplish that. Many thanks to those readers who have been following this blog since Day 1 (May 19, 2008). To those who are visiting for the first time today...Welcome, and thanks for dropping by!

Here it is February already, and we're only 10 days away from Valentine's Day. So I'm in the mood to do some variations of my "Hearts and Flowers" image.

Today's post features "Hearts and Flowers, Gold"--lots of yummy reds, with greens yellows and golds--which I just finished today: Hot off the drawing table, you might say. It's available for purchase on ETSY via this link:  https://www.etsy.com/listing/221437087/hearts-and-flowers-gold-valentines-day

Hearts & Flowers, Folk Style

Hearts & Flowers: Folk Style, 2013. Hand colored, mixed media on rice paper.
The fun part of hand coloring my Boogie Board prints is altering the hues and patterns to see how it all turns out. The variety of possibilities is amazing. The saturated colors of this version reminded me of the bright and cheerful designs of American Folk Art styles, such as the Pennsylvania Dutch. Enjoy!

Thanks for visiting my blog and have a great day.
