About The Artist

My photo
Albuquerque, New Mexico, United States
Hello! I am a fine arts painter, with a BFA from The School of the Art Institute of Chicago. My primary painting medium is oil and alkyd, and mostly I work in a representational style. My greatest challenge as a painter is to capture the effect of light; and my greatest joy as a painter is to accomplish that. Many thanks to those readers who have been following this blog since Day 1 (May 19, 2008). To those who are visiting for the first time today...Welcome, and thanks for dropping by!

Now Showing....

Carol L. Adamec: "Kintsugi Kimono" 2016. Oil, mixed media on panel, 16"x16".

..."In a Japanese Garden" at Spiva Center for the Arts, Joplin, Missouri, through December 16.

The pattern on this kimono was inspired by the crackled glazed surface found on Chinese and Japanese ceramic items.

The small areas of gold are "kintsugi", a 500 year-old method of mending broken or flawed pottery using gold. Rather than hiding such repairs, the gold-filled cracks and spaces celebrate the beauty of restoration over replacement.

White Blossoms, Version 2

"White Blossoms, Blue Sky," 2016. Original mixed media on panel, 6"x6". Available: Contact Artist.

Back in September I posted a different "White Blossoms" painting, one with a bright yellow background.

Today's image is a different version of "White Blossoms" with a background of blue. It's painted with gouache on rice paper, overlaid with color pencil and accented with metallic gold. Rather cheerful, I think, considering the wintry weather some folks are experiencing today.

Thank you for taking a moment to visit my blog. Enjoy your weekend.

Garden Varieties #7: Gold Series

Garden Varieties #7: Gold, 2012.
The opening at the Weyrich Gallery last Friday was quite nice. Since it was an Albuquerque citywide ArtsCrawl, all the galleries were open; and being a lovely evening, lots of folks were out looking at art.

I was pleased to sell 5 of my Boogie Board handcolored works on paper during the opening. (Many thanks to my buyers!)

Today's image is one of the pieces in the exhibit. It is from the Garden Varieties Series and has been embellished with metallic gold and color pencil. It's available framed for $115, or unframed for $85 (plus S&H). If you are interest in purchasing, contact the Weyrich Gallery at 505.883.7410.

Have a great day, and thanks for taking a moment to visit my blog.

Another piece from the past

Dragonheart, 2002
Original mixed media
15" x 15"
SOLD

Although I worked in the studio this weekend, everything is too wet to put on the scanner. So, once again I'm posting an artwork I did a several years ago.

In November 2000,
I went to China for a 10 day tour. It was quite wonderful and mindboggling, too. For the next couple of years, I did several paintings, prints, and mixed media artworks that incorporated imagery and references to Chinese culture.

This piece is composed with a lot of red, black yellow, and gold coloring, sort of a Chinese palette. The text on the left comes from a booklet of ancient Chinese writings. The dragon in the upper right hand corner is a hand done cut-out made from tissue paper...incredible! I bought a packet of these at the Shanghai Museum for about a dollar. The heart and the rose (another image theme that I favored at the time) and the rest of the piece were painted by me.

Thanks for taking a moment to read this post. And Happy St. Patrick's Day to all! See you Thursday.
